Send Electrical Certificates As CSV file – Spreadsheet

iCertifi Update: Send Your Electrical Certificates as CSV Files
We’ve been listening to your feedback, and our latest iCertifi update brings a another new feature:
You can now send your electrical certificates as CSV files in addition to PDFs.
What’s a CSV File, and Why Should You Care?
A CSV (Comma Separated Values) file is a simple text-based format that stores your data in a way that can be opened and processed by almost any spreadsheet or database software — think Microsoft Excel, Apple Numbers, Google Sheets, and countless industry tools.
Unlike PDFs, CSV files aren’t locked to a fixed layout. They’re designed for data exchange, making it incredibly easy to sort, filter, and analyse information.
Why This Matters for Electrical Contractors
Many local councils, housing associations, and compliance departments now request electrical certificate data in a format that can be imported directly into their systems.
Previously, with PDF-only export, this was a challenge — PDFs are great for presenting a certificate, but extracting data from them is time-consuming, unreliable, and sometimes impossible.
With CSV export, you can simply attach the file and your client (or the council) can instantly load the data into their own system — no manual retyping required.
Advantages of CSV Certificates in iCertifi
-
Meets Council Data Requirements – Perfect for organisations that demand import-ready files.
-
Tiny File Size – An average EICR exported as CSV is around 16KB — that’s over 100x smaller than most PDFs.
-
Faster Sending – Smaller files mean quicker uploads, even on slow connections.
-
Instant Data Processing – Your recipients can search, filter, and analyse results in seconds.
-
Universal Compatibility – CSVs work on virtually every operating system, spreadsheet program, and database tool.
-
Keeps Your PDFs Too – You can still send beautifully formatted PDFs for official records — CSV is simply another option when you need data-ready output.
When to Use CSV vs PDF
-
Use PDF when you need a polished, presentation-ready certificate for clients, archives, or printing.
-
Use CSV when your customer, contractor, or compliance body needs raw data they can sort, import, or analyse.
