New in iCertifi Fire Edition
The fire alarm log book,
digitised.
The dog-eared book that hangs by the panel – reborn on your iPhone. BS 5839-1:2025 (Clause 48.2) now explicitly permits digital log books, and iCertifi gives you a compliant one that chases the tests for you.
The rule just changed – in your favour
Digital log books are now explicitly permitted
The 2025 revision of BS 5839-1 caught up with how people actually work. Clause 48.2 recognises a digital log book as an acceptable record – provided it is complete, secure and readily available for inspection. iCertifi Fire Edition is built to be all three.
Meet the log book
The book you know – that does the chasing for you
Same weekly test, same fault record, same service history. It just lives on the device already in your pocket, counts the rotation, remembers the dates and writes the paperwork.
01
One book per building
Type the building’s name from the home screen or Tools – a live log book in seconds. One per building, exactly as BS 5839-1 intends.
02
A weekly test in ~10 seconds
The app suggests which manual call point is due next, so you test a different device each week without keeping the count in your head. Tap, done, timestamped.
03
Records the full picture
Faults, false alarms and their causes, service visits, battery changes and agreed variations – all captured, all dated, all in one place.
04
Reminders that chase
Weekly test-due and service-due reminders, per building. A paper book never chased anyone – this one tells you before it becomes a finding.
05
One tap to a compliant PDF
Export a log laid out on the BS 5839-1:2025 Annex H model – 6 months, 12 months or the full history – for your client, the assessor or the fire authority.
Ready for inspection day
When the assessor arrives, the complete, standards-formatted record is one tap away – instead of a frantic hunt for a missing book.
Paper vs digital
Being allowed is the headline. This is the reason.

Who needs one
If it has a fire alarm, someone has to log it
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must keep records of the system’s testing and maintenance. That covers a lot of buildings:
Licensed HMOs
Landlords and letting agents – a legal requirement, and demanded by most landlord insurance.
Workplaces
Responsible persons and facilities managers across offices, shops and warehouses.
Care & public buildings
CQC-regulated care homes, schools, colleges and public premises.
Fire contractors
Engineers keeping the record on behalf of every client they look after.
Questions answered
Fire alarm log book FAQ
Is a digital fire alarm log book legal in the UK?+
Yes. BS 5839-1:2025 (Clause 48.2) now explicitly permits digital log books for fire detection and fire alarm systems, provided the record is complete, secure and readily available for inspection. iCertifi Fire Edition is designed to meet those conditions.
How often should a fire alarm be tested?+
Under BS 5839-1: a different manual call point every week, a monthly visual inspection and power check, a service inspection by a competent person at least every six months, and a full annual test with certification. iCertifi tracks the rotation and reminds you when each is due.
What is BS 5839-1:2025 Annex H?+
Annex H sets out the model log book – the recommended layout and information a fire alarm log should contain. iCertifi exports your log as a PDF laid out on the Annex H model, so it is instantly recognisable to any assessor or fire authority.
Do I still need the paper book on the wall?+
BS 5839-1:2025 no longer requires the record to be on paper – a compliant digital log book satisfies the standard. Many responsible persons keep the app as the master record and simply export the Annex H PDF whenever a physical copy is asked for.
